A washer drum fire pit

Jordon was in Superstore the other day and noticed that they had fire pits on for 50% off and we could get one for about $50.00.  I was all for it while Jordon asked me to phone around to some used appliance places for used washer drums.  I did and I found one for $8.

I was worried it wasn't going to be that strong but it was made from a heavier metal than the $100 (regular price) one that Jordon had seen.  After a quick coat of paint, it even looks okay and will make a pretty good fire pit for a lot less than $50.  Now all I have to worry about is what we are going to roast over the fire.

Update:  While the firepit looked pretty good all painted up, as the photo above shows, the paint didn’t last three fires.  We should have used barbecue paint on it.  The one thing that I never anticipated was the with all of the holes in the washer drum, all of the airflow makes for a nicer fire than our stone firepit at home and it cost a couple hundred dollars less than some of the other firepits that I have seen.

If you don’t want to burn a hole in your lawn, put something cement underneath it.  We used some old cinder blocks laying around the cabin and they worked well.

Another thing that works well as a base would be an old rim from a car wheel.
